1950s Montblanc Monte Rosa in Green

Fantastic Double-Broad Oblique Nib

Filler Type Piston-filler
Date of Manufacturer 1957-59
Overall Condition This attractive and unusual model is in Excellent condition.
Nib Correct and original 14K Montblanc Monte Rosa nib in Oblique Double Broad (OBB) size, which matches the filler knob imprint. The feed is the early flat model. The nib is very flexible and is an unbelievable writer.
Cap and Body Superb and rich color to both cap and body. No cracks, owner imprints or scratches other than the lightest surface wear. No apparent brassing except for one very small spot at the top of the clip. Cap imprint is clear and visible, as is the filler knob imprint. The clear ink window has nearly perfect clarity.
Additional details The Monte Rosa line were the "student" pens for Montblanc in the 1950s and later. This particular model is identical in size, shape and mechanics to the 342 pens of the same period. To be able to offer a well-made but inexpensive pen without diluting the value of the Montblanc name, the company used the Monte Rosa name for differentiation. The MB name on both the cap and the nib are smaller and less obvious than the Monte Rosa name. Additionally, the Monte Rosas used an extremely attractive "scalloped" band along the bottom edge of the cap (see pictures).

The Monte Rosas were available with either a steel nib (042) or a solid gold nib (042G). Additionally, the majority of these pens were made in Montblanc's basic black resin. This is one of the much more uncommon colored models and a very rich and handsome green. Additionally, this is a later production unit, with the model number engraved on the band around the lip of the cap rather than on the filler knob.

This is another example of the high quality that Montblanc put into their student pens prior to the 1970s. This is a very simple, well-made pen in an uncommon that will make an excellent daily user due to its size, balance, and wonderful nib.

The pen's mechanics are fully functional and holds ink without difficulty.
